The Payroll and Benefits Specialist is responsible for supporting Human Resources (HR) in the areas of payroll, benefits, leave management, employee wellness, HR information management, HR reporting and metrics and other duties as requested by the Human Resources Director.

Location: 622 Selby Ave, Saint Paul, MN 55104

Schedule: 35 - 40 hours per week, Monday - Friday business hours. Flexibility required to meet business needs. Hybrid work from home/office available with minimum 3 full days onsite per week.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • Computer Skills: Intermediate understanding of Microsoft 365 (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
  • Detail Oriented: Demonstrated attention to detail; ability to identify errors and make corrections; success working with numbers and large volumes of numeric data to produce highly accurate outcomes
  • Decision Making: Demonstrated record of sound judgement, integrity, confidentiality, and decision-making, considering the relative costs and benefits of potential actions to choose the most appropriate
  • Customer Service: Demonstrated record of excellent service and interpersonal skills, approachable, courteous, respectful; handles all situations with professionalism; ability to develop and maintain positive relationships with staff and vendors
  • Communication: Excellent verbal, nonverbal, and written communication, clear, concise, and accurate to convey complex information related to payroll and benefits; ability to provide coaching and consultation
  • Prioritization: Demonstrated track record of effective prioritization, multi-tasking, organizational skills, and follow-through
  • Problem Solving: Ability to identifying complex problems and review information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions that enhance payroll and benefits systems while maintaining compliance with requirements
  • Flexibility and Adaptability: Proven ability to be flexible and adaptable, able to adjust plans and priorities as needed to accommodate changes and meet deadlines
  • Math Skills: Demonstrated analytical ability and proficiency in math; ability to timely and accurately perform addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Payroll and Benefits: Prior experience in administration of payroll and/or benefits
  • Microsoft Excel: Ability to create pivot tables, formulas
  • Software Skills: Familiarity with cloud based HRIS and payroll systems
  • Multilingual

Physical and Working Requirements:

This position requires the ability to work on a computer (sitting or standing) for long periods of time; the ability to converse and exchange information with others; the ability to move around our store, offices, selling floor, stock areas, kitchen, and classrooms; the ability to operate office equipment including a 10 key calculator, telephone, computer, and printer; the ability to lift 25 lbs; and the ability to efficiently travel between locations with or without reasonable accommodation. In addition, this position must meet Mississippi Market's safe driver requirements.
