Performs intermediate-level professional engineering in the investigation, design, inspection, operation or construction of streets, alleys, sewers, bridges, and other Public Works projects. Prepares plans, specifications, cost estimates, contracts, and reports. Performs related work as assigned.

Information regarding this position: This Civil Engineer position is in the Traffic Engineering Division of the Public Works Department. The primary focus will be the design of signing, pavement markings, and related geometrics for transportation-related construction projects. The position will also help in other areas of traffic engineering design, analysis, and inquiries from the public. The position is based out of the City Hall Annex Building, 25 West 4th Street in downtown Saint Paul, with flexibility for remote work. Occasional evening meetings are required.

The hiring list created from this exam may be used to fill other Civil Engineer II positions as they become available in other areas of Public Works: Street Maintenance, Traffic Engineering and Operations, Bridge Engineering and Maintenance, Sewer Utility, and Transportation Planning and Safety.

Typical Duties: Provides assistance to project engineers in design, analysis, drafting, and inspection with increasing level of responsibility Assists with project management via estimating, budgeting, and scheduling Reviews and coordinates on external projects led by another division, department, partner agency, or private developer Interacts with the public regularly regarding projects and general inquiries The City of Saint Paul offers an excellent benefits package including health insurance, retirement contributions and paid time off.

Qualifications

A Bachelor's Degree, or higher degree, in Civil Engineering and a Fundamentals of Engineering Certification and two years of experience as a Civil Engineer I or equivalent. No substitution for education.
