Saint Paul Regional Water Services (SPRWS) Production Division and Engineering Division is hiring for summer interns to work from May through August of 2024.

This is a paid internship for technical college, university, or Water Environmental Technologies (WETT) program students. This is a 40 hours a week internship, Monday - Friday from approximately 7am - 3:30pm with some flexibility.

Water Quality Unit - 2 available positions The Water Quality Unit is responsible for source water monitoring, water treatment processes control, distribution system water quality monitoring, responding to customer complaints, providing sampling and testing support to the distribution system during the main construction season.

Additional duties may include: Basic field water sampling from source to tap and water quality analysis Assist water quality staff with routine sample collection and perform field water quality analysis in the distribution system Assist with general laboratory support functions Performs other related duties and responsibilities as required

Asset Management Unit - 1 available position In this position you will be working to organize, document, and more easily access files and information to better understand preventative maintenance.

Additional duties may include: Identifying assets, printing labels, and applying labels to assets so that each asset is marked with a unique identifying number Locating and scanning equipment manuals for future accessibility Reviewing equipment manuals to identify preventative maintenance Collecting information, reviewing equipment plates and engineering drawings Other duties related to colleting, processing, and retaining information

Water Main Construction Inspection Team - 3 available positions These positions will require working outside at field sites and will require extensive time out of the office as dictated by the construction site location and schedule. The primary duties are assisting with construction oversight and documentation under the guidance of Water Utility Technician staff.

Additional duties may include: Operate GPS survey equipment Assist with pre and post construction inspections Assist with Gopher State One-Call Utility locates Correspond with customers, contractors, operations staff, etc.

Project Engineering Team - 1 available position The primary duties are assisting with planning, designing, and reviewing projects primarily related to drinking water distribution.

Additional duties may include: Draft as-builts and construction drawing base maps using AutoCAD Civil 3D Construction field observation Pay item quantity tabulation and pressure data analysis using Microsoft Excel Preparation of meeting minutes or technical memoranda Customer communication and coordination Archive records organization Review televising videos

Qualifications

Water Quality/Asset Management:

Eligible candidates must be currently studying microbiology, biology, chemistry, water quality, water treatment or a similar discipline or enrolled in a Water Environmental Technologies program and meet the following minimum qualifications: Must demonstrate an ability to be an effective team member by being self-motivated, accepting of assignments, completing tasks on time, and asking for or offering assistance to other team members. Must maintain active student status for the duration of internship. Must possess and maintain a valid Minnesota Class D Driver's License, or equivalent out-of-state driver's license. Must be able to drive a company vehicle as necessary.

Water Main Construction Inspection/Engineering:

Eligible candidates must be currently attending or enrolled in a post secondary program studying in the field of Civil or Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering Technology, or a related discipline. Must maintain active student status for the duration of internship. Must possess and maintain a valid Minnesota Class D driver's license, or equivalent out-of-state driver's license. Must be able to drive a company vehicle as necessary.
