Performs routine field and/or office engineering work assisting more experienced employees in drafting, inspecting, and surveying. Assists in design work, the development of construction plans, and in field counts and observations. Issues permits. Performs other related duties and responsibilities as required.

Information about the current vacancies:

There are currently three vacancies in the Department of Public Works supporting the Traffic Engineering, Sewer Utility, and Survey divisions.

Traffic Engineering: This position is located at 800 City Hall Annex and is responsible for the intake and response to traffic signage and safety inquiries including: Communicates with constituents on the intake and status of their inquiries Completes technical reviews both in person and utilizing electronic tools Prepares and files traffic control change requests for traffic operations Handles and processes Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) parking requests Assists with traffic engineering design work as necessary

Sewer Utility: This position is located at 700 City Hall Annex and is responsible for working at the Service Desk. Typical duties include: Assists with and scheduling and performing of sewer inspections Issues sewer permits Maintains sewer records Provides requested sewer data to property owners, contractors, consultants, and other customers

Responsibilities

Survey Division: This position is located at 1000 City Hall Annex and works Monday through Friday from 6:30 AM to 3:00 PM. This role is the instrument operator for field crews. Typical duties include: Ensures work trucks for survey and engineering projects have materials necessary for crews including setting up work zone traffic control systems Assists with staking streets, sewer, and water mains during construction projects Provides maintenance to technology and equipment including LIDAR data and equipment, Tremble software, bi-pods, and Global Positioning System (GPS) Maintains construction ad lad survey records Performs other duties as requested by the Crew Leads, such as assisting with mapping projects and CAD data processing.

Qualifications

Completion of one year in a Civil Technology program at a technical college or equivalent.

OR

One year of course work acceptable toward an undergraduate degree in Civil engineering as offered by the U of M or equivalent.

OR

Two years as an Engineering Aide I or equivalent.
