Job Summary

Teachers Retirement Association (TRA) has been providing pension coverage to Minnesota educators for decades, with a mission to help members and their beneficiaries plan for an independent and financially secure retirement. We are currently seeking job candidates with accounting or auditing experience for our Staff Auditor role.

This position is located in our St. Paul, Minnesota office and may require occasional travel to attend conferences. The position maybe eligible for a work schedule that includes some teleworking.

Responsibilities

Our Staff Auditor position exists to perform operational and employer payroll audits to ensure compliance standards in accordance with state and/or federal laws, regulations, and agency policies and procedures. The incumbent will be tasked with evaluating existing internal controls and making recommendations as necessary. The incumbent will further assist with business risk assessment and the preparation of TRA's annual audit plan.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

Two (2) years of para-professional/technical level accounting or auditing support experience.

OR

One (1) year of professional level accounting or auditing experience.

OR

A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.

Education and/or experience must demonstrate the following:

  • Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and auditing principles.
  • Ability to analyze, interpret, reconcile, and audit financial data.
  • Ability to diagnose problems and recommend solutions for process improvement purposes.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and successfully manage competing priorities.
  • Ability to train or explain complex financial concepts to a variety of audiences.
  • Strong oral, written, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in using Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, WebEx, and/or equivalent software packages.

Successful candidates must also be able to secure own transportation for in-state business travel.

Preferred Qualifications

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • An Advanced degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field.
  • Experience working with State of Minnesota government financial systems, such as SWIFT and SEMA4.
  • Experience conducting financial audits or analyzing financial statements to make business operation recommendations.
  • Experience working for a public pension fund or private financial services institution.
  • Proficiency in using Access, PowerPoint, and QuickBooks.

Physical Requirements

This position requires occasional transporting of articles such as file folders, ledgers and/or small tools. May be required to move or maintain a stationary position for long periods of time.
