Performs full supervisory and expert professional work managing the daily operations associated with fire prevention, inspection, and safety. Plans programs and functions for the Fire Safety Inspectors section of the Department of Safety and Inspections (DSI). Monitors compliance with City ordinances and State Fire Safety regulations and directs enforcement actions. Instructs fire inspections personnel in the laws, ordinances, and regulations relating to fire hazards. Conducts difficult inspection work to eliminate fire hazards and enforce regulations. Reviews and supervises the work of fire inspection personnel. Assists with DSI planning and development of strategic initiatives. Assists with administrative support activities including budget development and administration, monitors revenue trends, and manages expenditures. Directs training, development and ensures staff performance. Performs other related duties and responsibilities as required.

Responsibilities

Assists with DSI planning and development of strategic initiatives. Monitors compliance with City ordinances and State fire safety regulations and directs enforcement actions. Instructs fire inspections personnel in the laws, ordinances, and regulations relating to fire hazards. Reviews and supervises the work of fire inspection personnel. Utilizes data-driven analysis and racial equity assessments to propose program enhancements. Directs training, development and ensures staff performance. Ensure compliance with policies and procedures, and ensure record management. Assists with administrative support activities including budget development and administration, monitors revenue trends, and manages expenditures. Coordinates with other department managers to ensure seamless, high-quality delivery of service to DSI's customers. Acts as the department liaison to the Office of Emergency Management. Qualifications

A Bachelor's Degree in Fire Science, Fire Protection Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field and four years of highly responsible operations experience to include initiating and implementing fire safety regulations and education, and related supervisory experience. Or, an Associate's degree or equivalent in Fire Science, Fire Protection Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field and six years of highly responsible operations experience to include initiating and implementing fire safety regulations and education, including four years of related supervisory experience.

Must have and maintain certification as a Fire Inspector II or higher by the Minnesota Fire Service Certification Board, the National Fire Protection Association-NPQB, or the International Fire Service Accreditation Congress to NFPA 1031 Standards. Or as a Certified Fire Protection Specialist (CFPS) by the National Fire Protection Association-CFPS Board. Or state registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) in Fire Protection Engineering or Mechanical Engineering.

Must possess and maintain a valid Minnesota Class D Driver's License, or equivalent out-of-state driver's license.
