The Metropolitan Airports Commission is accepting applications to fill multiple Temporary Snow Shoveler positions, typically working between mid-October 2026 through mid-April 2027. These positions are overtime eligible and work a regular schedule of 40 hours per week. Temporary Snow Shovelers who are held over or called back for snow and ice control events are provided with an assigned bunk, meals, and paid rest breaks.
As a Temporary Snow Shoveler, you will team up with our award-winning Field Maintenance crew to ensure MSP winter operations run smoothly! Temporary Snow Shovelers perform heavy manual labor and use a variety of snow removal equipment to remove snow from sidewalks, parking lots, emergency exits, field lights and signs. In addition, Temporary Snow Shovelers wash equipment, help with general clean-up, and complete other tasks as assigned. The ideal candidate will have some experience performing snow removal, groundskeeping, and/or commercial property maintenance.

Hourly Rate: $25.653
Positions may be assigned to one of the following shifts: Shift Days Hours Days Monday - Friday 6:00 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. Afternoons Monday - Friday 2:00 p.m. - 10:30 p.m. Nights Sunday - Thursday 10:00 p.m. - 6:30 a.m. Weekend Days Saturday - Wednesday 6:00 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. Weekend Afternoons Saturday - Wednesday 2:00 p.m. - 10:30 p.m.

Safe driving habits are critical for individuals employed in MAC occupations. As a result, external applicants for the Temporary Snow Shoveler position must meet the MAC's standard of safe driving in order to be hired.
A contingent offer of employment shall be withdrawn if the motor vehicle record contains:
- Three (3) or more minor moving violations within the last three (3) years from date of offer. Minor violations include, but not limited to: Failure to wear a seat belt Speeding Failure to stop at a stop sign Failure to yield
- Any major violation within the past three (3) years from date of offer including, but not limited to: Driving under influence of alcohol/drugs Open bottle or allowing open bottle Failure to stop/report an accident Violations as a result of an accident Reckless driving/speeding contest Making a false accident report Homicide, manslaughter or assault arising out of the use of a vehicle Driving while license is suspended/revoked Careless driving Attempting to elude a police officer Excessive speed Any pending criminal matter for a serious traffic offense will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
- Valid state issued driver’s license.
- Ability to work outdoors under severe and varying weather conditions for extended periods of time.
- Ability to perform heavy manual labor which includes shoveling, lifting, and carrying for extended periods of time.
- Ability to pass a criminal and employment background check.
- Ability to lift, carry, push, pull, and position up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to pass a physical examination.
Desirable Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Snow removal experience using a variety of snow removal equipment.
- Experience operating a lawn tractor using the plow, broom, and blower attachments.
- Experience using a walk-behind snow thrower.
- Experience in groundskeeping, landscaping or parks maintenance, or commercial property maintenance.
