The Public Works Department is hiring two Engineering Aide IIs to support land surveying and engineering activities that are critical to the successful delivery of public infrastructure projects. Current opportunities include working on a crew assisting with field data collection, construction staking, survey equipment operation, and project documentation and with maps & records, support helping maintain accurate engineering records, mapping, and property information while providing excellent service to internal and external customers.

Responsibilities
Here's what you can expect to do:
- Land Surveying Instrument Vacancy This position is 100% onsite, working Monday - Friday from 6:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., with the majority of work performed in the field requiring driving to different sites.
- Operate survey equipment, including total stations, GNSS/GPS receivers, digital levels, and data collectors, under the direction of a Survey Crew Chief. Collect, record, and verify field data for boundary, topographic, construction, utility, and right-of-way surveys.
- Perform construction staking, grade staking, and as-built surveys for public infrastructure projects. Locate and mark property corners, monuments, utility features, and right-of-way boundaries, and set survey markers (monuments, hubs, stakes, nails) as directed.
- Maintain, calibrate, and prepare survey equipment, vehicles, and field supplies to support daily operations.
- Support office and data processing tasks, including CAD drafting, survey computations, mapping, and GIS data maintenance.
- Maps and Records Vacancy This position is based in the City Hall Annex (1000 City Hall Annex).
- Typical work hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Provide excellent customer service by responding to telephone calls, emails, and walk-in inquiries from the public, contractors, surveyors, and City staff.
- Assist with assigning official property addresses in accordance with Legislative Code for permits, address changes, land subdivisions, additional address requests, and new structures.
- Assist with issuing permits and reviewing lot split applications for compliance with City requirements.
- Maintain and update as-built plans, right-of-way records, lot surveys, plats, and other historical City records using FileMaker Pro, Microsoft Excel, ArcGIS, AutoCAD, microfilm, logbooks, and the Card Catalog.
- Assist internal and external customers with locating and accessing as-built records, plats, maps, surveys, and other historical engineering and land survey documents.
- Demonstrate and assist customers with the use of the digital microfilm scanner, microfilm reader, and large-format scanner. Perform data entry, records management, and document indexing to support the Survey and Maps & Records Section. Perform other related duties as assigned in support of the Survey and Maps & Records operations.

Qualifications
Position Requirements Completion of one year in a Civil Technology program at a technical college or equivalent.
Or
One year of course work acceptable toward an undergraduate degree in Civil engineering as offered by the U of M or equivalent.
Or
Two years as an Engineering Aide I or equivalent.

The Qualifications Rating is an assessment of your completed application and answers to the Supplemental Questionnaire. Eligible Lists Created from Open Job Posting: You must receive a score of 75% or higher to pass the assessment and be considered for the position. Non-promotion eligible lists typically are pass/fail and promotion eligible lists are typically ranked. If the open eligible list created contains a veteran, one open list will exist. When there are no veterans remaining on the eligible list (i.e. hired, withdrawn) from an open list that also contains promotional candidates, two lists will be created: one open list and one promotion list. If two lists exist, the promotion list must be exhausted before the open list is considered.
Final Selection Process: Those who pass will be placed on an eligible list for approximately six months and all will be notified of their status. A Hiring Manager will consider those applicants eligible for hire. You will be notified if you are invited to participate in the final selection process which may include an interview, job simulation, work sample submission, or other evaluation method.
