Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced Building Engineer to support the operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of commercial building systems across our managed properties. This position is responsible for ensuring buildings are operating safely, efficiently, and professionally while providing responsive service to tenants, property managers, and ownership.
The ideal candidate will have strong hands-on experience with commercial building systems, including HVAC, building automation systems, plumbing, low voltage, and general building operations. This role requires someone who is proactive and can work independently, identify issues before they become larger problems, and confidently handle complex maintenance needs.
Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities
- Perform scheduled, preventative, and corrective maintenance on commercial buildings, equipment, and building systems.
- Diagnose, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain commercial mechanical systems, including blower motors, furnaces, boilers, heat pumps, cooling towers, pumps, motors, and related equipment.
- Monitor, operate, and adjust building automation systems and controls to support efficient building operations.
- Inspect building systems and perform needed repairs and replacements.
- Perform general building maintenance, including plumbing, lighting, low voltage electrical, doors, hardware, painting, patching, and finish work.
- Respond to tenant service requests and work orders in a timely, professional, and customer-focused manner.
- Prioritize and manage daily workload across assigned commercial properties.
- Coordinate with property managers, ownership, outside vendors, and contractors regarding repairs, maintenance needs, and project work.
- Provide clear communication and updates regarding work performed, system concerns, and recommended next steps.
- Maintain company tools, equipment, maintenance areas, and vehicles in a clean and professional manner.
- Support building inspections, seasonal maintenance, and project work.
- Respond to emergency repairs as needed.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Qualifications
Minimum of 5 years of commercial building maintenance, facilities maintenance, or building engineering experience; additional experience strongly preferred.
Strong working knowledge of commercial HVAC systems, boilers, controls, mechanical systems, and general building operations.
Experience with building automation systems strongly preferred.
Ability to troubleshoot, diagnose, and resolve building system issues independently with minimal supervision.
Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.
Ability to read, understand, and follow equipment manuals, work orders, and maintenance documentation.
Strong organizational, communication, and time-management skills.
Professional and customer-service focused when working with tenants, vendors, property managers, and ownership.
Valid Minnesota driver’s license and ability to travel locally between properties.
Ability to lift, carry, climb ladders, and safely work with tools and equipment required for the role.
