Position Summary:
PPGJLI is seeking a detail-oriented and creative Editor Intern to support our youth writing competitions and storytelling initiatives. In this role, you'll help shape young voices, review submissions, and provide editorial support for program materials and outreach content. You’ll play a key role in promoting literacy, celebrating student authors, and amplifying diverse stories. Interns are required to complete 60 hours of service per semester and will receive a $500 stipend upon successful completion of all program requirements.
Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist with reviewing, editing, and organizing submissions for youth writing competitions
- Provide feedback and editorial support on student writing entries (fiction, essays, poetry, etc.)
- Help prepare competition announcements, guidelines, and promotional materials
- Support the creation of certificates, press releases, and author spotlights for winning submissions
- Collaborate with the team to highlight young authors through blogs, newsletters, and social media
- Assist in compiling and editing writing samples for possible publication or showcase events
- Contribute to other literacy-focused projects as needed
Qualifications
- Service Leadership Project: Each intern will lead a community service project during the semester. This may include organizing a local writing workshop, hosting a youth author showcase, or promoting a writing competition in your community. Ideal Candidate:
- Current undergraduate/graduate student or recent graduate
- Strong writing and editing skills with attention to grammar, voice, and structure
- Experience in creative writing, journalism, publishing, or English studies is a plus
- Familiarity with Google Docs, Microsoft Word, and editing tools
- Organized, deadline-driven, and able to manage multiple projects independently
- Passionate about literacy, youth development, and equity in education
- Comfortable working remotely and contributing to a collaborative team environment What You’ll Gain:
