The Behavioral Health Technician is responsible for providing direct client support, maintaining a safe and structured treatment environment, assisting with daily program operations, and supporting client care in accordance with program policies, client rights, confidentiality requirements, and applicable Minnesota 245G standards. This position requires professionalism, dependability, strong boundaries, and the ability to work independently with limited direction.

Responsibilities

Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned. 

  • Administer client medications and document medication administration accurately according to policy and procedure. 
  • Maintain current knowledge of house activities, client activities, client whereabouts, and daily programming needs. 
  • Transport clients to and from appointments, intake pickups, discharge drop-offs, and other approved destinations. 
  • Ensure all passengers in company vehicles remain compliant, safe, and non-volatile during transportation. 
  • Plan work tasks to align with programming requirements and house operations. 
  • Set priorities in client monitoring, house rounds, documentation of pertinent information, and completion of assigned duties.
  •  Demonstrate dependability and the ability to work independently with little direction. 
  • Maintain current knowledge of program philosophy, policies and procedures, 245G requirements, house operations, client rights, and confidentiality. 
  • Assist counselors with intake/admission procedures and orientation of new clients and co-workers.
  • Encourage clients to achieve treatment goals by serving as a positive role model.
  • Participate in client recreational activities with a positive and professional attitude. 
  • Serve as a resource for clients through knowledge of services and opportunities available in the community. 
  • Document client information in communication logs and complete required forms. 
  • Objectively document client-related topics in client files and communication logs. 
  • Demonstrate diplomacy and sensitivity toward staff and clients’ feelings, needs, values, and opinions.
  • Complete clerical assignments such as faxing, copying programming materials, stocking packets/forms, typing documents in Microsoft Word, and updating Excel spreadsheets. 
  • Assist with food preparation and household cleaning duties as needed. 
  • Adhere to attendance and absence policies. 
  • Report to work punctually and participate in shift change reports. 
  • Participate in rotational and/or off-shift schedules, including holiday rotation schedules, as applicable.
  • Work additional hours or off-shifts as needed to support program operations.

Qualifications

Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record. CPR/First Aid certification or ability to obtain within 30 days of employment. Must be able to pass a background check. Knowledge of all Minnesota statutes related to providing services for the population NBH serves, or willingness to learn, understand, and carry out regulations with integrity. Must understand and follow NBH’s Drug and Alcohol Policy. Must be at least 18 years old.
