The Saint Paul Police Department is seeking Community Liaison Officers (Download PDF reader) (CLO) to play a key role in our community. CLO's assist with community events and outreach programs. The Community Liaison Officer position is a transition position into Police Officer for the City of Saint Paul.

Responsibilities

  • Perform entry level public relations work explaining police protocols and procedures to the public and relaying community concerns to sworn officers.
  • Assist sworn police officers with administrative functions related to criminal investigation. 
  • If able, assist with translation, interpretation for police officers, neighborhood residents, hospital staff, and victims of crimes.
  • Enforce parking violations on city property.
  • Assist in community events and engages in outreach programs. 
  • Assist with office administrative work.

Qualifications

Must possess and maintain a valid Minnesota Class D Driver's license or equivalent out of state driver's license.

A Community Liaison Officer must enroll in a POST approved (Peace Officer Standards Training) law enforcement program by the date of appointment. This enrollment must be maintained throughout employment until the date of graduation from the program. The Community Liaison Officer position is a transition position into Police Officer for the City of Saint Paul. A Community Liaison Officer must qualify and be appointed as a Police Officer within the anniversary date of four year service in this class. If at any point it is determined by the department that a Community Liaison Officer does not meet the qualifications or physical requirements for Police Officer, the Community Liaison Officer may be separated at any time. If no examination is held for Police Officer during those four years, appointment as a Community Liaison Officer may be extended until such examination is held and completed.

Must have no felony convictions; including pardons and/or expungements, no criminal convictions of gross misdemeanor or equivalent level, no physical assault, domestic assault, or eluding the police convictions.

Some positions in this class require reading, writing, and speaking fluently in a language other than English.
