Responsibilities

Here’s what you can expect to do:

  • Lead and Supervise Skilled Trades Staff
  • Direct and coordinate the work of maintenance crews, operating engineers, and contractors in the repair and upkeep of buildings, pools, fountains, HVAC systems, lighting, and technology systems.

Plan and Oversee Building Projects

  • Review construction and remodeling plans, estimate costs, and manage contracts for both in-house and vendor-performed work to ensure quality and compliance with city and safety standards.

Develop and Manage Preventive Maintenance Programs

  • Implement and maintain scheduled maintenance systems to extend the life of city assets, reduce downtime, and improve operational efficiency across facilities.

Ensure Safety, Compliance, and Training

  • Uphold OSHA regulations and city safety protocols, provide staff training, and ensure the safe handling and disposal of hazardous materials while fostering a culture of safety and accountability.

Manage Resources

  • Understanding of budges and how the budget and resources relate to the maintenance of Parks and Recreation buildings.

Qualifications

Eight years of progressively responsible experience performing and coordinating building and mechanical systems maintenance, construction, and repair work, including two years as a crew leader or supervisor.

The following can be substituted for two years of non-supervisory experience:

  • Two year college degree or equivalent in building construction or building project management
  • Licensed in one of the following trades: Electrician, Operating Engineer, Pipefitter, Plumber, Power Limited Technician
  • Journey level status as a Carpenter, Mason, Painter, or Trades Laborer

Must possess and maintain a valid Minnesota Class D Driver's License or equivalent out of state driver's license.
