As an After-School Teacher, you’ll guide students in grades K–9 through daily homework help, structured academic lessons, and character-building activities. You’ll play a key role in helping them grow academically, socially, and spiritually, all while modeling Christ-like values. 

Responsibilities

  •  Teach and mentor students in a supportive, faith-based environment. 
  •  Develop engaging lesson plans aligned with Minnesota academic standards. 
  •  Support students with homework and individualized learning needs. 
  •  Encourage spiritual growth and model a Christ-centered life.
  •  Promote positive behavior and character development aligned with HHYD’s values. 
  •  Collaborate with staff to support Personal Learning Plans (PLPs).
  •  Maintain a safe, organized, and welcoming classroom environment.

Key Responsibilities 

  • Classroom Coverage & Instruction
  •  Facilitate classroom activities and lessons based on existing plans and curriculum. 
  •  Support students’ spiritual growth and encourage Christ-centered conversations. 
  •  Maintain classroom order, positivity, and engagement aligned with HHYD’s mission. 
  •  Provide homework help and academic support across subject areas. 
  •  Communicate with lead teachers and staff about student progress or concerns. 
  •  Reinforce behavioral expectations and guide students in character development. 
  •  Provide feedback on instructional needs when covering extended periods.

Transportation 

  •  Safely drive HHYD vans to transport students between designated locations.
  •  Perform daily vehicle safety checks and report any maintenance issues. 
  •  Maintain appropriate student behavior and safety during transport. 
  •  Adhere to all traffic laws and organizational safety procedures. 
  •  Collaborate with staff to coordinate transportation routes and schedules.

Qualifications

Qualifications 

  •  A strong commitment to HHYD’s Christian mission and values. 
  •  Bachelor’s degree required; teaching license or equivalent experience preferred. 
  •  Strong communication, leadership, and classroom management skills. 
  •  Compassion and cultural sensitivity for working with diverse, inner-city youth. 
  •  Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google Suite.
