The Opportunity
This position works out of our Woodridge location in Little Canada, Mn in the EP division.
In Abbott’s Electrophysiology (EP) business, we’re advancing the treatment of heart disease through breakthrough medical technologies in atrial fibrillation, allowing people to restore their health and get on with their lives.
As the Scientist I, you will be part of the Analytical Chemistry group in our Science and Technology team. The Scientist will have a focus in analytical chemistry while working with various chromatographic systems including GC-FID, GC-MS, HPLC, IC, and ICP-MS. Additionally, scientist will work in a fast-paced laboratory environment, possessing strong attention to detail and excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
Responsibilities
What You’ll Work On
- Support routine manufacturing using analytical instrumentation such as HPLC, UPLC, FT-IR, and DSC in high-throughput environment.
- Perform wet chemistry testing to support incoming chemicals/materials per USP methodologies.
- Perform Test Method and compendial method training activities with other team members.
- Follow written test method procedures to execute routine laboratory tests in GMP environment.
- Collaborate and consult with other Abbott customers on various projects and studies.
- Document, analyze, and report test results using Labvantage Electronic Notebook software system.
- Ensure laboratory cleanliness is maintained, and chemical inventory is well stocked.
- Communicate effectively with supervisor and other team members.
- Expand working knowledge of analytical techniques/instrumentation and troubleshooting skills.
- Expand knowledge of test method validation activities.
- Support senior scientists with method development and validation of test methods as needed, as well as execute method validation activities individually, as needed.
- Work in a dynamic team environment and have strong interpersonal skills.
- Follow Abbott Quality Policy by adhering to documented Standard Operating Procedures and work Instructions.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree required. Degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, or related degree/discipline.
1+ years of related work experience, primarily operating analytical instrumentation through relevant industry experience.
Strong verbal and written communications with ability to effectively communicate at multiple levels in the organization.
Ability to work within a team and as an individual contributor in a fast-paced, changing environment.
Ability to multitask, prioritize and meet deadlines in timely manner.
Strong organizational skills, as well as attention to detail.
Preferred Qualifications
Working knowledge with MS Office (with emphasis in MS Excel), Water’s Empower software, MassHunter software system and Labvantage ELN documentation system.
