Minnesota State Community and Technical College (M State) is accepting applications for a full-time Electrical Line Worker Technology Instructor to begin fall semester 2025. The work location for this position is Xcel Energy in Northeast Minneapolis. The position becomes unlimited upon completion of six semesters of required probationary status.
M State partners with Xcel Energy to provide the Energy Careers Academy in northeastern Minneapolis, bringing curriculum and industry experience into the classroom at Xcel’s Riverside and Hugo training centers. This partnership expands access and opportunity to individuals in the seven-country metro area who are interested in electrical line work.

What does an instructor do?
An Electrical Line Worker Technology Instructor teaches theoretical and practical hands-on skills relevant to all phases of power line construction and maintenance, preparing students for apprenticeships with utility providers. Instructors also guide students in the operation of vehicles such as digger derricks and bucket trucks. Coursework includes electrical math, national electrical safety codes, construction of overhead and underground distribution systems, conductor applications, over-voltage and over-current protection, guying and pole grounding.
Responsibilities
Position responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Comprehensive college-level instructional planning, including industry standard line work curriculum development. Teaching and facilitating student learning based on practical and theoretical concepts relevant to the industry. Managing the classroom. Promoting professional behavior in the classroom and on the training field. Explaining industry pathways and work environments to students. Assessing student performance at course and departmental levels. Contributing to student assessments at the college general education level. Maintaining professional skills and credentials. Participating in department meetings, activities and collegewide committees.
Qualifications
Education Requirement:
- Diploma in electrical line work. Occupational Experience Requirement:
- Four full-time (or equivalent) years of verified related paid work experience in electrical line work. Recency Requirement:
- One year of this work experience shall be within the five years immediately preceding the date of application for the credential field. The recency requirement shall be waived if the individual has two years of successful full-time (or equivalent) postsecondary teaching experience in the credential field within the last five years.
