JOB SUMMARY

The candidates hired and new to this job classification may be eligible to receive a $5,000 hiring bonus! This bonus will be paid in two increments, with the first payment made after successfully passing the probationary period.

A $1,000 Referral Bonus may be offered to Revenue staff that recruit new talent hired at Revenue, in this position. A referral form will be sent to new hires who are in positions for the referral incentives.

The MinnesotaCare tax funds the MinnesotaCare health insurance program, which provides coverage for low-income individuals. In this role, you will collaborate with a variety of stakeholders, including chief financial officers, presidents, certified public accountants, controllers, accountants, tax managers, office administrators, billers, and small business owners, to verify records and ensure compliance. You will also work closely with other departments and agencies to provide education and promote compliance with MinnesotaCare tax regulations.

In this position, you will independently conduct MinnesotaCare tax field audits at taxpayer sites, offering education and technical assistance to MinnesotaCare taxpayers and others. You will also participate in various compliance activities. The role requires up to 50% travel, including overnight trips within Minnesota and occasionally out of state. Telework is available for applicants residing in Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa, North Dakota, or South Dakota, subject to business needs and supervisory discretion. Occasional in-person meetings at the St. Paul office will be required.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • One (1) year of full-time professional experience in accounting or auditing

OR

  • Three (3) years of experience providing administrative support duties working with taxes or conducting research and analysis work
    • An Associate's Degree may substitute for 6 months of experience. Bachelor's degree may substitute one (1) year of experience; master's degree substitutes for eighteen (18) months of experience; PhD substitutes for twenty-four (24) months of experience.

Applicants who meet the above experience requirements will be further evaluated based on the following:

  • Knowledge of personal computers, including knowledge of word-processing, spreadsheet, and database applications/software.
  • Human relations, communication skills necessary to deal with taxpayers and workplace associates in a professional and effective manner.
  • Problem-solving skills and organizational/planning skills necessary to independently perform the duties of the position.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, including using formulas and pivot tables, sorting data, formatting spreadsheets and cells, and linking data between worksheets.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects at a time.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills including the ability to write reports.
  • Experience using the Department of Revenue's GenTax system.
  • Knowledge and experience reading and interpreting Explanation of Benefits (EOBs) and other health insurance claim reimbursement documents.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Requires occasional moving of articles such as boxes, accounting records, laptop computer, and portable printer.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Prior to an offer of employment, a background check will be conducted. This will include, but is not limited to checking degrees and licensures, criminal history, and tax filing and payment history. All individual income tax filing and payment obligations must be current prior to interviewing for this position.
