Basic Function
The current vacancies are in the Detoxification and Withdrawal Management department. The eligibility list created by this vacancy may be used to hire other vacancies in the department or County.
To provide for the safety, comfort and well-being of clients admitted to the detoxification facility; to maintain a therapeutic environment by adhering to policies and procedures while attending to the individual needs of each client; to facilitate educational and interactive groups with clients; and perform related duties as assigned.

Responsibilities
Examples of Work Performed
Participate in the admission of new clients to the facility by performing a safety search, inventorying and documenting personal property, assisting the nurse with gathering vital signs, assist clients to change clothes and attend to personal hygiene, and explain the policies and procedures of the facility to individuals and through facilitation of orientation groups.
- Assist clients who have difficulty walking due to intoxication or other physical limitations; provide assistance through use of approved crisis intervention techniques and protective procedure policies under the direction and supervision of a nurse or the program director.
- Provide basic care to clients by serving meals and snacks, launder clothing, and assist with grooming needs.
- Provide information to clients about The Facility Abuse Prevention Plan and Vulnerable Adult issues, general referral information, and assist them in speaking with a nurse or counselor when appropriate.
- Maintain order in the unit by following the facility's policies and procedures. Assist in keeping the facility clean to maintain physical health/safety of clients and staff.
- Observe client behavior to determine if the individual may require the attention of a nurse or counselor.
- Participate in client discharges from the facility by following Discharge Policy and Safety Procedures.
- Respond to emergency situations under the supervision and direction of a nurse.
- Engage with clients, through the use of de-escalation techniques, motivational interviewing strategies and other trauma informed care interventions to facilitate individual's ability to participate in therapeutic interactions while on the unit.
- Other duties as assigned to facilitate daily operations and maintenance of unit functioning to meet the basic needs of individuals served. Ability to engage in pro-active problem solving and solution implementation as part of an integrated care team.

Exam/Screening Process Information
The examination process will consist of the following section with each section weighted as indicated:
Training and Experience Rating = 100%
The examination for Detoxification Aide will consist of a training and experience rating, comprised of the questions in the attached supplemental questionnaire. Not all applicants who meet the minimum qualifications will pass the training and experience rating. The rating on this supplemental questionnaire will depend on your answers to the questions – do not mark “see resume” or “see work history” as a response. Please answer all your questions clearly and completely. Failure to respond could affect your score and final rank on this examination.
Eligible List: The names of all applicants who filed a properly completed application and passed the examination/screening process shall be placed on the Rule of 10 eligible list for an employment opportunity as a Detoxification Aide. This list will be certified to the appointing authority which may use this list to conduct interviews to fill a vacancy. Candidates will remain on the list for two months or until hired, whichever occurs first.
A notice will be sent to applicants at the time the eligible list is posted, informing them that the list has been posted and their rank on the list. The department may choose to interview any candidate on the eligible list.
Veteran's Preference: This is a classified position requiring an open, competitive selection process. Veteran's Preference points will be applied after a candidate passes the examination process. Applicants who are eligible for veteran's preference should update their veteran's DD214, and other supporting documents, and submit them as an attachment at the time of application.
Criminal Background Checks: All employment offers are conditioned upon the applicant passing a criminal background check. Convictions are not an automatic bar to employment. Each case is considered on its individual merits and the type of work sought. However, making false statements or withholding information will cause you to be barred from employment, or removed from employment.
