The City of Saint Paul Department of Safety and Inspections is hiring an individual to perform entry level technical work conducting routine exterior grounds and interior building inspections to enforce laws, ordinances, rules and regulations relating to the Fire Inspection and Certificate of Occupancy programs.

Here’s what you can expect to do: Conduct limited routine inspections, complaint investigations, and enforcement actions to determine compliance status and identify violations. Assist other staff with inspections and progressive enforcement actions for non-compliance. Apply standards of City codes and State laws to investigation and inspection assignments. Issue orders of corrective actions for noncompliance. Assist in providing life safety training programs to the public. Qualifications

Requirements may be met by one of the following options:

One year of experience performing a combination of property inspections, property maintenance, or public safety. Thirty college semester credits. Certification as a Fire Inspector I or higher by the MN Service Certification Board, the National Fire Protection Association – NPQB, or the International Fire Service Accreditation Congress to NFPA 1031 standards. Must possess and maintain the Fire Inspector Certification by the end of the probationary period. Candidates who do not complete certification will be separated from the DSI Fire Safety Inspector I classification.

Must possess and maintain a valid Minnesota Class D Driver's License or equivalent out-of-state driver's license.
