
Clerk Typist 1
To perform clerical support functions relating to the activities of the work unit to which assigned to include completing typing assignments, records maintenance using paper or electronic filing systems, public contact, and general office services; and to perform related duties as assigned. (This is the entry-level class in the Clerk-Typist series. It provides an opportunity to gain the knowledge and skills that are needed to function at the higher levels of the Clerk-Typist series.)
Clerk Typist 2
To perform clerical support functions relating to the activities of the work unit to which assigned to include completing typing assignments, records maintenance, using paper or electronic filing systems, public contact and general office services; and to perform related duties as assigned. (This is the intermediate class in the Clerk-Typist series. It differs from Clerk-Typist 1 in that employees are gaining experience that would require a higher degree of independence and enable them to perform complex tasks.)
Clerk Typist 3
To perform clerical support functions relating to the activities of the work unit to which assigned to include completing typing assignments, records maintenance, using paper or electronic filing systems public contact, and general office services; and to perform related duties as assigned. (This is the journey or full performance class in the Clerk-Typist series. It differs from Clerk-Typist 2 in that previous clerical experience enables employees to perform complex tasks and requires more independent actions. In addition, employees in this classification may provide work direction to other personnel engaged in similar duties.)
The main duties may include:
- Answer calls within a call center.
- Provide clerical support to internal and external customers to ensure delivery service from a Financial Assistance Services section.
- Work with systems such as, Laserfiche, CaseWorks, Mnbenefits, METS, Maxis, MEC2 and CAFE
- Scanning and verifying documents.
- May include public contact at Service Center(s) on a rotational basis.
- Case creation and/or application assignment using MN Benefits, Maxis, Café, and CaseWorks.
- To perform clerical support functions relating to the activities of the MNsure area such as: CaseWorkse scanning and indexing in METS DocBoxes , prepping mail, registering applicants into the METS (MNsure) system, Maxis person research, processing returned mail, and other duties as assigned.
- To perform duties relating to forms and records maintenance using various computer systems and programs such as MAXIS, MMIS, CAFÉ, CasWorks, METS , and Microsoft office.
***The position is currently approved through 2024, depending on program funding and needs. These positions may be extended into 2025.

Flexible Workplace
This position is identified under the designation of ‘flex work eligible’, meaning that the employee can formally opt to be in-office full-time or work a flex schedule in which at least two-days per week are performed in office and other days can be performed in a remote-first environment. Regardless of selection, the position carries expectations regarding on-site responsibilities and will require schedule flexibility beyond the minimum expectations set forth in the county’s flexible workplace policy. Hourly Salary Range for Clerk Typist 1 is $16.20 - $22.40
Hourly Salary Range for Clerk Typist 2 is $17.54 - $24.47
Hourly Salary Range for Clerk Typist 3 is $19.78 - $28.88
Responsibilities
Examples of Work Performed
1. Promote a diverse, culturally competent, and respectful workplace.
2. Create letters, reports, memoranda, exhibits, records, forms, charts, tables, or other documents by using a computer to produce drafts or final copy from recordings, rough copies, or other source materials.
3. Perform duties relating to the production of correspondence such as gathering and arranging materials required for completing assignments; reviewing, proofreading, and editing materials for spelling, grammar, and syntax; and otherwise ensuring the quality and accuracy of printed or electronic documents.
4. Perform duties relating to forms and records maintenance such as establishing, maintaining, and updating files; searching files for information; maintaining records and statistics; opening, maintaining, and closing case files; and recommending new forms or other revisions of existing forms. Depending on assignment, duties may involve the maintenance of electronic data files.
5. Perform public contact duties such as receiving and routing phone calls; responding to complaints and inquiries by phone and in person; directing clients or visitors to proper locations; scheduling appointments for clients or staff; and assigning service requests to program units or staff in accordance with established guidelines.
6. Perform general office services to include opening, sorting and distributing mail and preparing outgoing mail; preparing and sending form letters and composing routine letters; copying and scanning documents; assisting the public in completing forms; and related duties.
7. Perform budget maintenance or payroll duties such as preparing or verifying payrolls; maintaining inventories of office supplies; recommending equipment purchases; preparing, checking or processing requisitions, purchase orders and accounts payable forms; and maintaining accounts in accordance with the Department of Finance practices.
8. Perform clerical functions particular to the unit to which assigned which involve duties relating to checking, verifying, or processing forms, records and documents; setting priorities according to established guidelines in order to meet deadlines, and maintaining a smooth work flow; and otherwise ensuring the efficiency of clerical operations.
9. May provide work direction to other clerical personnel engaged in similar duties.
(The work assigned to a position in this classification may not include all possible tasks in this work and does not limit the assignment of any additional tasks in this classification. Regular attendance according to the position's management approved work schedule is required.)

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
Education: High school graduation or equivalent.
Experience:
Clerk Typist 1: None.
Clerk Typist 2: Two years of full-time experience as a Clerk-Typist 1.
Clerk Typist 3: Four years of full-time experience as a Clerk-Typist 1 or equivalent.
Substitution: Graduation from a recognized, post-secondary, two-year secretarial program may substitute for two years of the required experience. Post high school education and/or training may substitute on a year-for-year basis for half of the required experience.
Certifications/Licensure: None.

Applicants who meet the minimum qualifications for this position will be forwarded to the hiring department/manager for consideration for these limited duration, unclassified positions. Candidates appointed to limited duration, unclassified positions may become eligible for benefits based on schedule. There is no guarantee of employment beyond the anticipated end of this assignment.
Definition of Unclassified from the Ramsey County Personnel Act:
Subdivision 1. General. "The appointing authority may discharge employees in the unclassified service with or without cause. Employees in the unclassified service have no right to a grievance appeal from discharge or other disciplinary action under sections 383A.281 to 383A.301. An employee in an unclassified position shall not have tenure but shall be entitled to all benefits associated with tenure such as vacation leave, sick leave, health insurance, and other benefits as determined by the county board."
