There are multiple vacancies for the Clerk Typist job series across the organization. The eligibility list created by this vacancy may be used to hire other vacancies in the department or County.
Basic Function Clerk Typist 2
To perform clerical support functions relating to the activities of the work unit to which assigned to include completing typing assignments, records maintenance, using paper or electronic filing systems, public contact and general office services; and to perform related duties as assigned.
Basic Function Clerk Typist 3
To perform clerical support functions relating to the activities of the work unit to which assigned to include completing typing assignments, records maintenance, using paper or electronic filing systems public contact, and general office services; and to perform related duties as assigned. (This is the journey or full performance class in the Clerk-Typist series. It differs from Clerk-Typist 2 in that previous clerical experience enables employees to perform complex tasks and requires more independent actions. In addition, employees in this classification may provide work direction to other personnel engaged in similar duties.)

Flexible Workplace
This position is identified under the designation of ‘flex work eligible’, meaning that the employee can formally opt to be in-office full-time or work a flex schedule in which at least two-days per week are performed in office and other days can be performed in a remote-first environment. Regardless of selection, the position carries expectations regarding on-site responsibilities and will require schedule flexibility beyond the minimum expectations set forth in the county’s flexible workplace policy. If an internal candidate is selected, salary will be set in accordance with the personnel rules (i.e., promotion, transfer, or voluntary reduction).

Exam/Screening Process Information
This examination process will consist of the following sections with each section weighted as indicated:
- Training and Experience Rating = 100%
Eligible List: The names of all applicants who pass the examination/screening process, and file a properly completed application, shall be placed on the Rule of 10 eligible list for employment as a Clerk Typist 2-3. This list will be certified to the appointing authority which may use this list to fill a vacancy. Candidates will remain on the list for 6 months or until hired, whichever occurs first. A notice will be sent to applicants at the time the eligible list is posted.
Following initial interviews, departments may require candidates to provide verification of typing speed if selected for a second interview.
Veteran's Preference: This is a classified position requiring an open, competitive selection process. Veteran's Preference points will be applied after a candidate passes the examination process. Applicants who are eligible for veteran's preference should update their veteran's DD214, and other supporting documents, and submit them as an attachment at the time of application.
Criminal Background Checks: All employment offers are conditioned upon the applicant passing a criminal background check. Convictions are not an automatic bar to employment. Each case is considered on its individual merit and the type of work sought. However, making false statements or withholding information will cause you to be barred or removed from employment.
In addition, and depending on the department assignment, you may be subject to one or more of the following:

Responsibilities
Examples of Work Performed
1. Promote a diverse, culturally competent, and respectful workplace.
2. Create letters, reports, memoranda, exhibits, records, forms, charts, tables or other documents by using a computer to produce drafts or final copy from recordings, rough copy or other source materials.
3. Perform duties relating to the production of correspondence such as gathering and arranging materials required for completing assignments; reviewing, proofreading, and editing materials for spelling, grammar and syntax; and otherwise ensuring the quality of printed or electronic documents.
4. Perform duties relating to forms and records maintenance such as establishing, maintaining and updating files; searching files for information; maintaining departmental records and statistics; opening, maintaining and closing case files; and recommending new forms or the revision of existing forms. Depending on assignment, duties may involve the maintenance of electronic data files.
5. Perform public contact duties such as receiving and routing phone calls; responding to complaints and inquiries by phone and in person; directing clients or visitors to proper locations; scheduling appointments for clients or staff; and assigning service requests for program units or staff in accordance with established guidelines.
6. Perform general office services to include opening, sorting and distributing mail and preparing outgoing mail; preparing and sending form letters and composing routine letters; copying and scanning documents; assisting the public in completing forms; and related duties.
7. Perform budget maintenance or payroll duties such as preparing or verifying payrolls; maintaining inventories of office supplies; recommending equipment purchase; preparing, checking, or processing requisitions, purchase orders and accounts payable forms; and maintaining accounts in accordance with Department of Finance practices.
8. Perform clerical functions peculiar to the unit to which assigned which involve duties relating to checking, verifying, or processing forms, records and documents; setting priorities according to established guidelines in order to meet deadlines and maintaining a smooth work flow; and otherwise ensuring the efficiency of clerical operations.
(The work assigned to a position in this classification may not include all possible tasks in this work and does not limit the assignment of any additional tasks in this classification. Regular attendance according to the position's management approved work schedule is required.)

Experience: Two years of experience as a Clerk-Typist 1 or equivalent.
Other: Ability to type 40 wpm.
Substitutions: Graduation from a recognized post-secondary secretarial program may substitute for half of the experience requirement. Post high-school level course work may be substituted on a year for year basis for up to half of the years of experience required.
Minimum Qualifications Clerk Typist 3
Education: High school graduation or equivalent.
Experience: Four years of experience as a Clerk-Typist 1 or equivalent.
Other: Ability to type 50 wpm.
Substitutions: Graduation from a recognized, post-secondary secretarial program may substitute for half of the experience requirement. Post high-school level course work may be substituted on a year for year basis for up to half of the years of experience required.
