Job Summary

• This position may experience a wage cost of living increase in July 2024.

• Join our team of curious researchers solving problems related to tax policy, legislation and Revenue operations. This Geographical Information Systems (GIS) position uses geographic analysis and interactive map production to support the Department of Revenue. Tasks include creating and maintaining spatial datasets, geocoding large datasets and conducting spatial analyses on state and local tax issues.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

• 18 months of full-time equivalent experience working with Geographic Information Systems (GIS) or similar mapping software including ArcGIS, QGIS.

• Associate's degree may substitute for six (6) months of experience; Bachelor's degree may substitute for one (1) year of experience; Master’s degree may substitute for 18 months of experience; Doctorate degree may substitute for two (2) years of experience. To qualify, degrees must be earned in Geographic Information Systems/Science (GIS), Geography, or a closely related field.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience using desktop GIS programs including ArcGIS, MapInfo Professional, or other comparable software.

• Technical skills and attention to detail to understand, manage and update large datasets.

• Experience using Web GIS/ArcGIS Online including creation, configuration, hosting and administration.

• Experience writing and editing code in at least one language (e.g. Python, VBA, MapBasic, etc.).

• Experience geocoding, within a desktop GIS program like ArcGIS, or in a standalone geocoding utility such as MapMarker.

• Strong communication skills and the ability to work well with others and as part of a team.

Physical Requirements

• Requires occasional moving of articles such as boxes, accounting records, laptop computer, and portable printer.
