Overview
Assist with planting, care and upkeep of Minnesota State Fair greenhouse and gardens.
Employment Type
• Summer Employment - Begin in late May or early June and continue through September. • Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m • Some weekends and evenings beginning in August. • Extended hours during peak times, including some weekends and evenings are required. • Available to work during Minnesota State Fair, August 22 – September 2, 2024 preferred. • Possible part-time opportunity extended through October.
Responsibilities
Essential Functions
• Assist with care and upkeep of State Fair greenhouse and gardens, including watering, hauling, planting, mulching, weeding, fertilizing and transplanting. • Work in environment that may include hazardous substances, heat/cold, noise, bright/dim lighting and mechanical hazards. • Assist with tasks assigned by either the immediate supervisor or other full-time staff members as needed.

Job Requirements
• Available to work June –September with limited days off. • Must be at least 16 years of age or older. • Extended hours during peak times and consecutive days without time off are required. • Ability to work with others, as well as independently, and to work quickly and efficiently. • Excellent communication skills with other team members. • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
Preferred Qualifications
• 1-2 years of personal or professional experience with gardening or in a greenhouse. • Experience with gardening equipment such as a tiller and tractor. • Knowledge of annual and perennial plant characteristics. • Valid driver’s license. • High School Diploma
