Responsibilities

Taxes can be complicated. This position makes them easier for the public to understand! As a Plain Language Writer/Editor, you'll work within the Communications Division at the Minnesota Department of Revenue to write and edit internal and external content using plain language principles. This position will work closely with one other Plain Language Writer/Editor, as well as a Plain Language Coordinator.

This position is regarded as an expert in plain language writing and editing. You'll work across the agency to gather information, edit drafts, provide writing consultation, and be a key member of agency-wide projects and implementation work.

Qualifications

Qualifications Minimum Qualifications One (1) year of professional work experience in communications, journalism, english, writing, or a related field

OR

Bachelors Degree in Communications, Journalism, English, or a related field

AND

Strong knowledge and understanding of Plain Language principles.

Proven ability to turn complex ideas and concepts into easy-to-understand messages.

Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously and prioritize work based on deadline urgency.

Preferred Qualifications Professional experience writing and editing content for multiple mediums, including print, web, social media, and video.

Experiencing working in state or local government, or in a large private organization with differing stakeholders and audience types.

Customer service and professional relationship building skills.

Physical Requirements Requires occasional moving of articles such as boxes, accounting records, and laptop computer.
