Job Summary This posting may be used to fill multiple vacancies and is being posted at three job class levels: Revenue Tax Specialist, Revenue Tax Specialist Intermediate, and Revenue Tax Specialist Senior. Final job class will be determined based on successful applicant's qualifications. Teleworking employees are required to live in Minnesota or a bordering state in a county along the Minnesota state line.

The candidates hired and new to this job classification may be eligible to receive a $5,000 hiring bonus! This bonus will be paid in two increments, with the first payment made after successfully passing the probationary period.

The Revenue Tax Specialist performs difficult and specialized tax administration work to ensure compliance with Minnesota tax laws. The employee conducts Corporate Franchise audits by applying appropriate law, policy and procedures. The specialist informs the taxpayer of problems or discrepancies found in records, provides information to the taxpayer as needed, and completes other related duties as assigned. The specialist provides service and education to external and internal customers. This position will also assist Revenue Tax Specialist Principals on larger, more complex audits. The position will use a laptop 100% of the time and will be required to travel locally and out-of-state.

Any of the following from an accredited college or university:

Bachelor's degree with a major in Accounting, Finance, Economics, Business Administration, Business Management or Marketing; Master's degree in a degree listed above or Taxation; CPA Applicants who meet the above experience requirements will be further evaluated based on the following:

Knowledge of accounting and auditing principles as evidenced by academic coursework or related work experience. Knowledge of personal computers, including knowledge of word-processing, spreadsheet and database applications/software. Human relations, communication skills necessary to deal with taxpayers and workplace associates in a professional and effective manner. Problem-solving skills and organizational/planning skills necessary to independently perform the duties of the position. Revenue Tax Specialist Intermediate Minimum Qualifications

One (1) year of professional-level accounting or auditing experience

AND

Any of the following from an accredited college or university:

Bachelor's degree with a major in Accounting, Finance, Economics, Business Administration, Business Management or Marketing; Master's degree in Business Administration, Accountancy, Finance, or Taxation; CPA OR

Certification (satisfactory completion of probation) as a Revenue Tax Specialist

Applicants who meet the above experience requirements will be further evaluated based on the following:

Knowledge of accounting and auditing principles and practices Technical tax knowledge, including court rulings, regulations and administrative policies and procedures Customer service and interpersonal skills Ability to plan, direct and review the work of others Knowledge of personal computer operation and software programs used by the department in its internal and external operations Communication and presentation skills Knowledge of audit report processing procedures Knowledge of electronic filing/processing systems Skill in reading comprehension Skill in problem-solving Revenue Tax Specialist Senior Minimum Qualifications

Two (2) years of professional-level accounting or auditing experience

AND

Any of the following from an accredited college or university:

Bachelor's degree with a major in Accounting, Finance, Economics, Business Administration, Business Management, or Marketing; Master's degree in Business Administration, Accountancy, Finance, or Taxation; CPA OR

Certification (satisfactory completion of probation) as a Revenue Tax Specialist, Intermediate

Applicants who meet the above experience requirements will be further evaluated based on the following:

Knowledge of accounting and auditing principles and practices Technical tax knowledge, including court rulings, regulations and administrative policies and procedures Customer service and interpersonal skills sufficient to interact and negotiate with taxpayers and/or their representatives Leadership skills and the ability to plan, direct, and review the work of others Knowledge of personal computer operation and software programs used by the department in its internal and external operations Communication and presentation skills Knowledge of electronic processing accounting systems Knowledge of electronic filing/processing systems Skills in reading comprehension Skill in problem-solving Skill in analysis Must have reliable transportation or a valid class D driver's license.

Preferred Qualifications Revenue Tax Specialist or Revenue Tax Specialist Intermediate or Revenue Tax Specialist Senior Preferred Qualifications

Experience working with multi-national corporations, qualifying work experience in the Corporate Franchise Tax area and professional certifications desirable.

Experience auditing the following issues:

Minnesota R&D tax credits Unitary combined income Apportionment and Minnesota sourcing of sales Non-business Income Physical Requirements Requires occasional moving of articles such as boxes, accounting records, laptop computer, and portable printer.
