
Description
Provides professional and administrative assistance to a City Councilmember serving a designated City ward with the goal of meaningfully representing the views and positions of the Councilmember. Manages constituent services to include handling citizen requests, addressing ward issues, researching information, and assisting with policy development. Coordinates delegated work plans, performs policy and work flow analysis, and implements Councilmember decisions. Manages public relations initiatives including working with individual constituents and groups regarding complex community issues. Organizes the Councilmember's initiatives, coordinates efforts with other City staff, and leads the work assignments of designated staff. Is available for in person meetings and work at City Hall during the week, especially Tuesday through Thursday, and is available for some evenings and weekends as needed. Performs other duties as required.
The Legislative Aide works under the direction of the Councilmember and may exercise technical supervision over lower-level support, technical, or professional staff.

Qualifications
One of the following requirements must be met:
Bachelor's Degree in Public Administration, Urban Studies, Planning, or a related field and two years of professional experience in public administration, policy analysis, or community development. Master's Degree in Public Administration, Urban Studies, Planning, or a related field. A combination of college level education and four years progressively responsible, professional experience in public administration, policy analysis, or community development.
Desired Qualifications: -Capable of effectively listening, speaking, writing, and interacting within a group. -Provides effective leadership by positively influencing others and the work environment by being considerate, tactful, and supportive. -Understands the mission and vision of the Council and Ward Office and associated customer service standards, respecting the diversity of customers, both internal and external and is committed to continuously improving customer service. -Understands and respects the diversity of customers and coworkers, including individuals with disabilities, socio-economic differences, or whose first language may be one other than English and is capable of working successfully with diverse clients. -Understands principles, terms, techniques, trends and methods involved with advocacy, work flow analysis and policy analysis and can apply this knowledge in resolving problems associated with the Council objectives. -Understands complex organizational and unit structure, policies, rules, regulations, terms, services, mission, and vision for the City Council and Councilmember. -Capable of simultaneously planning and managing multiple projects of either a routine or complex nature, including understanding the specific roles, responsibilities, and expectations to establish effective relationships and complete assignments by established deadlines with the understanding that flexibility is key to be successful in this position. -Understands software and applications needed to accomplish work objectives, including, internet, database, spreadsheet, word processing software and social media.
