Parks and Recreation is looking for diverse and talented candidates to join our team as Youth and Community Program Specialists. These full-time grant funded positions will work in one of five areas for Right Track or the Saint Paul Youth Commission: Youth Jobs One (YJ1), Youth Jobs Two (YJ2), youth engagement and training, youth leadership programming, or as a job coach.

Performs intermediate level work that supports the creation and implementation of youth and community based outreach programs and initiatives. Assists with organizing, planning, and coordinating programs for participants and communities, including underserved and populations whose first language may be one other than English. Responsible for training and supporting a cohort of interns, mentoring youth and community based program participants for activities including recruiting, programming, collaboration, and communication activities. Participates in the setup and operation of special events. Assists with enforcement of rules, regulations, and procedures of the programs. Performs other duties and responsibilities as required.

Right Track is the City of Saint Paul's youth internship program, providing summer and school year internships for Saint Paul youth.

The Saint Paul Youth Commission trains and supports young people throughout Saint Paul to lead on issues they want to see changed. The Saint Paul Youth Commission staff also support Youth On Boards, a collaborative with the Mayor’s Office and the Sprockets Network, to train and support youth who serve as full voting members on the City boards and commissions.

Each year, Right Track, and the Saint Paul Youth Commission partner with over 200 businesses and organizations to engage over 1,000 young people throughout Saint Paul, providing opportunities for young people to discover what they are passionate about and impact the future of our community.

While each position will have unique responsibilities, all work will focus on improving opportunities for the young people of Saint Paul. Responsibilities and tasks will center young people, either supporting youth directly or building and improving programs and systems created to support their growth.

These are granted funded full-time, 40 hour a week positions and are anticipated to continue through 2024. Hours are generally Monday – Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. with occasional evenings and weekends. The Right Track works out of the Center for Youth Employment, located at 1022 Marion St, St Paul, MN 55117.

Responsibilities

Intern Supervision • Supervise daily work of Right Track Marketing Interns • Track and approve intern timecards • Collaborate with Right Track team to schedule and maintain intern recruitment efforts

Intern Training (curriculum provided by Right Track) • Facilitate training sessions for youth • Nurture a sense of community among interns through group dialogue and team-building

Individual Coaching and Mentorship • Build positive, caring relationships with young people • Identify interns who require additional attention, mentorship, and support from the program • Provide job coaching for individual interns during training and in the workplace, as needed or requested

Employer Relations • Provide high quality customer service to employers • Serve as the program's liaison for workplace supervisors • Collaborate with work site supervisors to develop action plans for interns struggling with performance issues

Qualifications

Two years of experience working with youth and/or community residents with diverse backgrounds, including experience implementing recreational, educational, or social programming for youth and community members.

Must possess and maintain a valid Minnesota Class D Driver's License or equivalent out of state driver's license.
