Join us! We are hiring a Horticulturist II to join our Como Park and Conservatory team. The position performs horticulture work such as permanent plant collections, changing floricultural installations, and work on outdoor gardens, including zoo exhibits.

Como Park Zoo and Conservatory Como Park Zoo and Conservatory is operated by the Saint Paul Parks and Recreation Department. The zoo features a seal island, a large cat exhibit, a variety of aquatic life, primates, birds, African hoofed animals, and a world class polar bear exhibit. Here's what you can expect to do in this role: Provides and leads others in providing care to plant collections, greenhouse floriculture crops, and botanical garden displays, and zoo displays, greenhouse floriculture crops, outdoor landscapes, and plant life of city parks, grounds, and medians. Designs pots, gardens, exhibits, or displays.
Uses and maintains hand and power tools and equipment. Maintains an inventory of tools, equipment, and materials as assigned. Makes minor repairs on equipment as needed. Drives and operates motorized vehicles safely and efficiently as assigned. Applies pesticide to plant collections, botanical garden displays, and greenhouse floriculture crops. Assists with maintenance of chemical and fertilizer inventories and Safety Data Sheets (SDS) compliance records. Leads, as assigned, horticulture work such as tropical or temperate plant collection, specialized botanical or landscape garden displays, zoo exhibits, or production of greenhouse floriculture crops. Qualifications

Requirements may be met by one of the following:

A Bachelor's Degree in Horticulture or a closely related plant science degree such as botany, agriculture, greenhouse management or floriculture; and two years of experience in horticulture or a related industry, not including sales. An Associate’s Degree in Horticulture or a closely related plant science degree such as botany, agriculture, greenhouse management or floriculture; and four years of experience in horticulture or a related industry, not including sales. Six years of experience in horticulture or a related industry, not including sales. Must possess and maintain a valid Minnesota Class D Driver's License or equivalent out of state driver's license.

Must have a Minnesota Department of Agriculture Non-Commercial Pesticide Applicator License (written tests part A and E) within six months of the date of appointment.
