Responsibilities

Job Summary The candidates hired and new to this job classification may be eligible to receive a $5,000 hiring bonus! This bonus will be paid in two increments, with the first payment made after successfully passing the probationary period.

A $1,000 Referral Bonus may be offered to Revenue staff that recruit new talent hired at Revenue, in this position. A referral form will be sent to new hires who are in positions eligible for the referral incentives.

This posting may be used to fill multiple vacancies.

This position is responsible for resolving Senior-level Sales and Use Tax administrative appeals. This includes analyzing the case file and the taxpayer's appeal, researching issues, conducting conferences with taxpayers or their representatives, evaluating the issues, negotiating with the taxpayer or their representative, preparing notices of determination or settlement documents and communicating with department employees. This position will specialize in Sales and Use Tax. This position is also responsible for providing assistance to the Attorney General litigation section attorneys in Tax Court appeals.

Teleworking employees are required to live in Minnesota or in a state bordering Minnesota.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications Three (3) years of full-time professional experience in accounting or auditing

Must have reliable transportation or a valid class D driver's license.

*An accounting, finance, or related degree as determined by the agency may substitute for experience as follows: An associate degree may substitute for 6 months of experience. Bachelor's degree may substitute one (1) year of experience; master’s degree substitutes for eighteen (18) months of experience; PhD substitutes for twenty-four (24) months of experience.

Applicants who meet the above experience requirements will be further evaluated during the interview based on the following:

Proficient in accounting and auditing principles, including sales and use tax regulations and court rulings Strong customer service and negotiation skills for interactions with taxpayers and representatives Familiarity with computer operations and relevant software Effective communication and presentation abilities Thorough understanding of Minnesota tax laws and their practical application Knowledgeable in court decisions, attorney general opinions, and policies Knowledge in electronic accounting systems and filing/processing systems Understanding of information exchange and disclosure policies and agreements Competence in sales and use tax audit report processing procedures Skills in reading comprehension, problem-solving, and analysis Preferred Qualifications Extensive knowledge of sales and use tax laws, rules, and audit policies. Strong interest in independent research, statutory interpretation, and resolution of difficult sales and use tax issues. Experience in dispute resolution. Extensive experience in tax compliance activities. Knowledge of GenTax relating to Sales and Use Tax and Audits. Physical Requirements Requires occasional moving of articles such as boxes, accounting records, laptop computer, etc.
