We are looking for a skilled Operating Engineer to join our Parks and Recreation department. This role involves maintaining and repairing heating, cooling, and power systems, ensuring smooth operations in various facilities.

Location: 1100 North Hamline Avenue Schedule: Shifts are 3 p.m. to 11 p.m. and nights 11 p.m. to 7 a.m. and include weekends and holidays.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and Repair Equipment – Install, maintain, and repair HVAC systems, boilers, air compressors, generators, and bodies of water like pools and fountains.
  •  Perform preventive maintenance, including greasing bearings and changing belts and filters.
  • Operate Tools and Machinery – Use specialized tools, testing devices, and computer software to diagnose and repair systems. 
  • Safely operate vehicles, material handlers, hoists, and lifts.
  • Recordkeeping & Coordination – Maintain work schedules, equipment logs, and inspection records.
  • Coordinate with contractors, trades, and maintenance teams as needed.
  • Work in Various Conditions – Perform physical tasks such as lifting up to 50 lbs., climbing ladders, and working in both indoor and outdoor environments under different weather conditions.

Qualifications

Must obtain Certified Pool/Spa Operator (CPO) certification within one year of appointment as an Operating Engineer. Failure to obtain and/or maintain CPO certification will result in termination.

Must possess and maintain a valid Minnesota Class D Driver's License or equivalent out of state driver's license.

Five years of experience operating, maintaining, and repairing power units, machinery, and accessories in the areas of air conditioning, refrigeration, boilers, erecting and installing of refrigeration machinery and heating systems.

Must have and maintain a valid First Class C Boiler Operator License. OR A Second Class C Boiler Operator License, with five years of related experience working with that license, may be substituted for a First Class C Boiler Operating License for the first year of employment.

** If you hold a Second Class C Boiler license, you must be eligible to take the First Class C Boiler exam and obtain the license within fifteen months of appointment. Failure to obtain and/or maintain First Class C Boiler License will result in termination.
