Join our team! Our nationally recognized Parks and Recreation is hiring diverse and talented individuals to join us in our Community Recreation Leader role. This position impacts our communities and helps us make Saint Paul a city that works for us all.
Our Recreation Centers are public facilities that are open to everyone, and specific emphasis is placed on ensuring our spaces are equitable and programs and services are representative of community interest.
Information specific to the permanent (certified) year-round position: This position requires employees to work at least 20 hours per week which can include days, evenings, weekends, and some holidays. The Parks and Recreation Department hosts 26 Recreation Centers across the city in addition to program offerings held within spaces such as regional or passive parks and public schools. Recreation Leaders are typically assigned to a defined facility or program but are also expected to assist at other locations if a program need presents itself. Responsibilities
Here's what you can expect to do:
1)Provide Youth Care & Activities
- Supervise elementary-age children in after-school programs
- Lead structured and unstructured recreation, arts, childcare, and sports activities
- Communicate with parents and staff to ensure safe, dependable care
2)Support a Positive Environment
- Help create a safe, nurturing, and welcoming space for children, teens, and adults
- Administer CPR and First Aid if needed until medical assistance arrives
3)Customer Service & Program Support
- Greet and assist customers in person and by phone
- Answer questions, register participants, and collect fees
- Maintain records such as attendance and incident/accident reports
4)Facility Setup & Maintenance
- Prepare spaces for activities (e.g., nets, scoreboards, tables, chairs)
- Perform light cleaning, take out trash, wash windows, operate equipment, and shovel snow when needed
5)Work Schedule & Flexibility
- Work days, evenings, weekends, and some holidays as required
Qualifications
Must be at least 18 years of age.
Preferred qualifications:
- High school graduation or General Education Development certificate (GED) equivalency.
- Paid or volunteer experience working with youth or adults in a recreation, school, and/or customer service setting.
