Youth Community Connectors (YCC) is a dynamic program that empowers high school students to bridge the gap between their communities and local government. The City of New Brighton believes that young people are innovative, resourceful, and brilliant. By amplifying youth voices, we are confident that we can better serve our increasingly diverse community. YCC is an 11-month position (August 2025 to June 2026) where approximately eight Community Connectors meet monthly to learn, strategize, and take action--exploring City programs and services while identifying ways to increase accessibility and engagement. Beyond these meetings, Community Connectors leverage their identities and networks to share City communications, gather resident feedback, and shape future initiatives. One week in August is dedicated to 4 days of training (20 hours total). Every month from September to May, Community Connectors will spend 2 hours meeting in person and 3 hours taking information to community networks. June is dedicated to sharing learnings and celebrating accomplishments (5 hours total). Community Connectors will learn about local government departments and their functions; enhance their communication, collaboration, and project management skills, and experience representative leadership. YCC isn't merely about increasing community engagement; it's about building a future where youth leadership drives meaningful change.
