The City of Saint Paul Department of Safety & Inspections is hiring an individual to perform advanced level technical work in the examination of residential, commercial, and industrial building plans and the interpretation of codes, laws, and regulations related to building construction.

Here’s what you can expect to do: Review routine to complex design plans, perform calculations, and conduct onsite inspections to ensure consistency of projects with the approved plans. Determine compliance with federal and state laws; City codes, ordinances, permits and licenses; related property and use; and the safeguard of public health and safety, and right of way regulations. Address concerns and resolve complaints from architects, builders, contractors, and the public. Issue building permits upon completion of the plan review. Qualifications

Requirements may be met by one of the following options: An Associate's Degree in Construction Management or similar degree and two years of experience performing plan reviews/code reviews on commercial projects to include high rise and licensed facilities, schools, mixed use, or multi-family projects. Must obtain and maintain state certification as a certified Building Official within one year of employment. Four years of experience performing plan reviews/code reviews on commercial projects to include high rise and licensed facilities, schools, mixed use, multi-family projects. Must obtain and maintain state certification as a certified Building Official within one year of employment. Certification as a MN Building Official, ICC commercial Building Plans Examiner certification and two years of experience performing plan reviews/code reviews on commercial projects to include high rise and licensed facilities, schools, mixed use, or multi-family projects.
