
We are hiring two Planning Managers to join our dynamic Planning Division with the Planning and Economic Development team. The candidates hired now will be involved in initiatives advancing equity and resiliency as prioritized by the comprehensive plan, zoning ordinance administration, environmental review, major development sites planning, and strategic grants to support development and infrastructure in the city, and be part of an experienced, multi-talented and professional team.
Long Range Planning Supervisor: This position is responsible for a team of planners and would oversee long range planning, with a focus on comprehensive plan implementation items, prioritizing those that advance equity and resiliency. This would include managing citywide zoning studies involving zoning text amendments, and leading plan development for major redevelopment sites, and district planning efforts. Other functions would include supporting transportation planning projects and other infrastructure planning. A new focus would be to participate in cross-departmental policy initiatives that would build greater resiliency and equity within the city (including strategic grant identification, applications, and award administration, as applicable).
Current Planning Supervisor: This position is responsible for a team of planners and planning technicians and would oversee zoning ordinance administration (in particular, zoning case review), and State-mandated environmental review. The candidate would also assist the Planning Administrator and Planning staff with managing HUD-mandated environmental review and pass-through grants coordination to support pre-development and development projects. Other initiatives include participating in site plan review, and supporting citywide zoning studies and district planning efforts (as needed).
Additional Information about these positions: Performs full supervisory and expert professional work managing daily operations and providing planning, housing, economic development, financial, or administrative expertise. Reviews work and supervises staff responsible for grants management, requests for development of proposals, and budget management. Assists with administrative support activities including budget development and administration, monitoring revenue trends, and managing expenditures. Serves as a technical consultant on complex projects, consults and advises on moderately complex matters, and resolves urgent critical issues. Provides policy recommendations, identifies program needs, and may directly support the leadership team. Participates in and makes recommendations for interviewing, hiring, and promotion processes. Directs performance management and provides coaching and training for staff. Performs other related duties and responsibilities as required.

Qualifications
Ten years of progressively responsible experience in urban planning, housing development, economic development, public administration, or financial management.
NOTE: An Associate’s Degree in a related field may be substituted for two years of work experience. A Bachelor’s Degree in a related field may be substituted for four years of experience. A Master’s Degree in a related field may be submitted for six years of experience.
