Responsibilities

  

Basic Function

The current vacancies are located at the Adult Detention Center and the Ramsey County Correctional Facility.  Positions require shared on-call responsibilities.

Working floor nurse designated as Supervisor of the shift.  Meet and perform all requirements of the Registered Nurse – Correctional Health.  Under the direction of a Public Health Nurse Clinician – Correctional Health provide direct and indirect nursing care to inmates; supervise the provision of nursing services at the Ramsey County correctional facilities and Adult Detention Center; perform limited administrative work; and perform related duties as assigned.

 

 

Examples of Work Performed

 

  1. Promote a diverse, culturally competent, and respectful workplace.
  2. Perform duties specified for the Registered Nurse – Correctional Health position.
  3. Participate in on-coming and off-going shift reports, ensure shift preparedness and communicate needs to maintain the ability to deliver safe and effective care during the shift and thereafter.
  4. Assign post-responsibility for shift staff and monitor performance.
  5. Designated administrative functions include: scheduling staff, resolving call-outs, conducting employee orientation and in-service training, development of nursing competency and skill set and conducting performance evaluations.  In conjunction with Public Health Division Manager and the Public Health Nurse Clinician – Correctional Health, taking disciplinary actions as required; quality assurance review processes as required; and other administrative functions relevant to the facility and as assigned.
  6. Monitor provision of nursing care through direct observation and review of medication records, nursing notes and other pertinent information.
  7. Ensure provider orders are appropriately transcribed and documented and inform staff of changes in ordered treatments, routine orders, and medications.
  8. Provide expertise and consultation to nurses and support staff regarding individual patient care problems.
  9. Assume on-call responsibilities for unresolved issues or emergencies.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

Education:  Completion of an accredited two-year program in nursing.

Experience:  Four years of experience in nursing.

Substitution: Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing or a related field and two years of experience in nursing.

Certifications/Licensure:  Must be licensed as a Registered Nurse in the State of Minnesota.  Must be Basic Life Support (BLS) certified.

Exam/Screening Process Information

The examination process will consist of the following section with each section weighted as indicated:

  • Training and Experience Rating = 100%
The examination for Nurse Supervisor - Correctional Health will consist of a training and experience rating, comprised of the questions in the attached supplemental questionnaire. Not all applicants who meet the minimum qualifications will pass the training and experience rating.  The rating on this supplemental questionnaire will depend your answers to the questions – do not mark "see resume" or "see work history" as a response. Please answer all your questions clearly and completely.  Failure to respond could affect your score and final rank on this examination.
 
Eligible List: The names of all applicants who filed a properly completed application and passed the examination/screening process shall be placed on the eligible list for an employment opportunity as a Nurse Supervisor - Correctional Health. This list will be certified to the appointing authority which may use this list to conduct interviews to fill a vacancy. Candidates will remain on the list for three months or until hired, whichever occurs first. A notice will be sent to applicants at the time the eligible list is posted, informing them that the list has been posted and their rank on the list.
The department may choose to interview any candidate on the eligible list.
