Performs progressive levels of technical work assisting in the cleaning, servicing, repair, and maintenance of municipal vehicles, equipment, apparatus, attachments, and appendages to heavy equipment. Assists with work performed on trucks, automobiles, construction equipment, fire equipment, grounds maintenance and forestry equipment, and related equipment and accessories. Cleans and performs daily service maintenance and prepares for decommissioning as identified by the maintenance schedule. Assists with dismantling and assembling of components to repair or replace parts. Performs related duties and responsibilities as required.

Qualifications

Must possess and maintain a valid Minnesota Class D driver's license, or equivalent out-of-state driver's license. Must obtain and maintain a valid Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with no restriction for airbrakes within twelve months of appointment.

The Vehicle Technician Trainee position is a transition position into the Vehicle Technician classification for the City of Saint Paul. A Vehicle Technician Trainee must make continued progress toward completion of a vehicle technician training program or a four-year auto technician apprenticeship program or equivalent. If it is determined that continued progress toward completion of the vehicle technician training program or an auto technician apprenticeship has not occurred, the Vehicle Technician Trainee may be separated from City employment at any time.
