Responsibilities

There are currently 4, temporary Park Services Coordinator vacancies, with the following specialties:
 

 

Certified Pool Operator (2 vacancies) – Works solely at Waterworks Waterpark mornings before the facility opens, cleaning the waterpark facilities and pool, as well as testing and adjusting pool chemical levels. A pool operator certification from NSPF is required, but training is offered by Ramsey County for qualified candidates. Position works June through August, with some hours available for facility seasonal opening in May.

Park Services Coordinator (2 vacancies) – Visits picnic shelters and pavilions during weekends to provide customer service to facility renters, and performs facility cleanup and light maintenance when necessary.

Temporary assignments work up to a maximum of six months. Candidates chosen to hire into a temporary assignment will not gain any rights or preferences for other permanent, Ramsey County positions.
 

 

Examples of Work Performed

 

  1. Assist with beach and beach concession start-up and shut-down by placing and removing swim markings, delivering supplies, cleaning, and perform related duties.
  2. Provide lead worker direction and support to lifeguard and beach concession staff to ensure that facilities are operating in a safe and effective manner and accordance with rules, regulations, and policies of the department.
  3. Conduct certification and in-service training programs for lifeguard and beach concession staff.
  4. Oversee lifeguard and beach concession staff schedules, making scheduling adjustments and auditing of timecards.  Assist in ensuring staff coverage in the event of no-shows.
  5. Respond to emergency situations within the park system by assisting staff, providing crowd control, and notifying the proper department staff of the emergency.
  6. Initiate contact with and responds to requests for assistance from park guests who rent picnic shelters and pavilions, if assigned.
  7. Inform park users of park ordinances and notifies the proper authorities when ordinances are violated.
  8. Communicate regularly with the public.
  9. Attempt to make immediate repairs and/or cleaning to facilities in need, and notify appropriate department staff of emergency repair and/or cleaning needs.
  10. Test and adjust the pool chemical balance. Monitor and make minor repairs or adjustment to the pool/pool systems and notify appropriate department staff of emergency repairs, if assigned.
  11. Assist with leisure research surveys and park counts.
  12. Secure park facilities at park closing times.

Basic Function
Based on assignment, to assist in the delivery of Park and Recreation Services by serving as an on-duty customer and staff liaison for beach operations, concession operations, picnic reservations, special events and general park use; to assist in the preparation and on-going operation of beaches, beach concessions, and pool and park facilities; and perform related duties as assigned.
 

Qualifications

 

 

Minimum Qualifications

Education: High school graduate or equivalent.

Experience: Six months of customer service experience.

Substitution:  None

Certifications/Licensure:  Valid Class D driver's license for the class of vehicles to be driven. Lifeguard Instructor certification preferred.  Training is available by Ramsey County. If assigned, may be required to obtain Certified Pool Operator certification.

PreferredLifeguard Instructor certification preferred.

Exam/Screening Process Information

All applicants who meet the minimum qualifications and properly complete an application will be forwarded to the hiring department/manager for consideration for this temporary position. Temporary appointments work up to a maximum of six months. Candidates chosen for hire into a temporary assignment will not gain any rights or preferences for other permanent, Ramsey County positions.
