POSITION TITLE: Special Educational Assistant
POSITION STATUS: Non-exempt
SCHEDULE: Monday – Friday, 7:30 am – 4:00 pm
POSITION PURPOSE:
To assist, support, and work closely with teachers, administrators, and other team members in providing educational benefits for students.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Collaborate with case managers, classroom teams, and support services to ensure student needs are being met.
Assist in the planning and implementation of the students’ daily programs under the direction of the Supervisor, case manager, and classroom teacher.
Assist in planning and preparing the learning environment including-but-not-limited-to preparing needed materials and supplies for your assigned student or classroom.
Observe, record, and collect data on behavior and specific IEP goals.
Assist in student organizational needs.
Support student sensory regulation needs.
Provide physical assistance to students in areas of daily living; such as toileting and/or feeding.
Intervene as necessary to redirect the student's target behavior and de-escalate behavior that puts the student or other person at risk of injury.
Consistently implement safety expectations, including correct use of PPE (personal protective equipment) and safety protocols and procedures.
Participate in staff meetings, training programs and/or conferences designed to promote professional development.
Maintain positive, professional relationships with students, staff and student families.
Maintain and use positive, professional written communication with all individuals.
Supervise activities to ensure safety.
Regular, prompt attendance.
OTHER POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
Lead small groups in educational activities
Proctor exams
Support after-school clubs
Support community based outings
Other job-related duties as assigned
Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
High school degree or equivalent Ability to operate a computer and the software necessary to complete the required job tasks
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
2 year degree or a minimum of 60 college credits OR successful completion of the ParaPro exam Knowledge and experience working with students on the autism spectrum and low incidence disabilities One year previous experience in a middle school or high school setting Valid driver’s license/ability to transport students via school vehicle (must have 3 or less moving violations in the last three years and no DWI/DUI convictions within the past 5 years). Knowledge and experience working with Google Apps
