Midtown Village

A prime example of how New Brighton is agile when opportunities arise, and is flexible when finding development solutions that represent a win for all parties.

For decades, the roughly 12-acre site had primarily been home to the original New Brighton Elementary school which later became a church in need of significant repair. When the property finally became available for purchase in 2017, the city was ready to act, acquired it along with surrounding land, and initiated an RFQ for developers to highlight their highest and best uses for the area. Based on the proposals, the city elected to work with two developers (Pulte & Dominium) to partner on a site plan balancing their needs and the needs of the surrounding neighborhood. The final plan included a new neighborhood park serving the surrounding residents, unique building placement to minimize impact on surrounding areas, and a mixture of market-rate and affordable units as called for in the city's Comprehensive Plan.
